STICKLEPATH will remember those from the village who died in two world wars on Sunday, November 11 with a short service of remembrance at the war memorial.
Located on the south-facing wall of the village hall, the memorial lists the names of men from the village who lost their lives during the wars.
This year, the service will also remember Roy Hallowell-Carew, whose name has recently been added to those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the second world war.
Roy was an RAF squadron leader attached to the Air Transport Auxillary. During a test flight on July 23, 1942, he died when his aircraft, a Spitfire Mk V, ran into difficulties and crashed near Cowley, Oxfordshire.
His daughter Sally, now living in Warwickshire, recently asked the Royal British Legion to have her father's name added to the memorial plaque.
Sally's maternal grandfather, William Power, moved to Sticklepath in 1938 and Sally and her mother moved into their house, Cedarcroft, soon after her father's death. This remained the family home until 1988.
The parish council agreed to the addition of the name of Sally's father and provided the necessary funding for the engraving work.
The service starts at 3pm.
