DARTMOOR National Park is asking people to be more aware of where they park their cars to ensure the safety of local residents, visitors and other road users.

A spokesperson for Dartmoor National Park said: ‘A great many people who enjoy their activities on Dartmoor tend to arrive at their destination by vehicle.

‘This can be people who live in the national park or who come in from other areas.

‘Many people have places they visit on a regular basis and often these locations have limited parking.

‘Indeed many of these wonderful locations are tucked away down some of the narrowest lanes in the county — taking a long time to negotiate.

‘If you arrive at your planned destination and the car park is full, please do not park your vehicle on narrow roads, blocking gateways or opposite gateways.’

People are being reminded that emergency vehicles need access to settlements, moorland homes and farms at all times.

The spokesperson added: ‘It only takes one person, on one occasion, to potentially leave complete chaos behind them while they are out enjoying Dartmoor.

‘So please, when you find that car park full, be moor aware and don’t be a problem to someone else.

‘Turn round and head off to an alternative spot where you can park sensibly.

‘There is so much to explore in this wonderful place that there really is no excuse.’
