THE moon was out as 130 people left Okehampton Rugby Club last Friday night for the second 'Starlight Moorwalk' to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

A mostly uphill trek up to Klondyke, Yes Tor and Rough Tor to Okehampton Camp, the exhilarating walk was blessed with good weather, unlike the rain and mist of last year.

Cancer Research UK community fundraiser Sylvia Arlett said it was hoped the walk, which involved mainly ladies and some children, many of whom had relatives with cancer or had been afflicted themselves, would raise £8,000.

'We were down on last year's numbers by about 40% but that, I think, is due to the economy,' she said.

'I would like to thank everyone who took part for their generosity. We hope they had a good time and this money will make such a difference to people with cancer.

'We spend money primarily on research including trials right here in Devon which helps people in Okehampton and further afield.

A walk for Cancer Research UK has taken place in Okehampton for the last five years.
