Torrington U16s 10

Okehampton U16s 62

OKEHAMPTON travelled to Torrington to complete the first half of the league season.

From the start Oke dominated all forward play and from the first scrum Callum picked the ball from the back of the scrum and after a strong run up the field he laid the ball off for Billy to score in the corner. This set the tone for the rest of the first half reaching 40-0 at half time.

In the second half the visitors shuffled their players and the game continued as in the first half but Torrington were awarded a penalty and also crossed the line for a converted try in reply to Okehampton's three tries and one conversion.

Okehampton tries: Billy (2), Callum (2), Will (2), Zac (2), Luke and Mark; conversions were Billy (4), Luke and Kyler.

This week Oke U16s are at home to Barnstaple U16s.

Tavistock U14s 39

Plymouth Argaum U14s 5

AN impressive Tavistock side from the start kept Argaum pinned back in their own half, with Harry Dunlop rewarding their efforts with an early try.

The strength of George, Hardy and Luke for Tavistock showed in some powerful drives, and despite the slippery conditions some superb passing down the line led to exciting attacking runs from Angus, Ollie and Matthew Walker. A period of sustained pressure close to the Argaum try line gave Alec Tavistock's second try, then an unstoppable try by Angus, running from the half way line was converted by Harry. A long kick from Harry was chased down by Joe Sellars, who attacked the opposition catcher then passed the ball to Harry for the final try of the half.

The second half was notable for some great defending by Tavistock when Argaum warmed up and got back into the game, though Tavistock gave away far too many penalties.

A crucial tackle by James, and Joe Sellars pace on the wing earned him the first two scores of the half; the second try effortlessly converted by Captain Joe Holbrook. Hardy robbed the ball in two successive Argaum line-outs, leading to a well worked try by Ollie. With their numbers depleted by injuries, Argaum borrowed Nic, Matt, Matthew and Joe at various stages of the match, who all worked hard for their team.

Argaum played with spirit to the end of the match, and their efforts were rewarded with an excellent try by Josh.

Paignton U14s 5

Okehampton U14s 41

OKEHAMPTON chalked up yet another convincing win this week, never really letting Paignton get into the game.

Brandon Horn scored after five minutes, quickly followed by Tom Strawbridge.

One of the Paignton boys then suffered a hard knock and the game was suspended whilst the Devon Air Ambulance was summoned. Immediately after the restart Brandon Horn ran in a second try.

The second half saw more good rugby from Okehampton. Harry Williams scored first, quickly followed by Hallum Chapman. Paignton  broke through for a consolation try ten minutes from the end. Okehampton U13s 15

Paignton U13s 5

OKEHAMPTON started this fixture positivel showing their intension to ruck strongly and pass the ball out wide but some strong tackling from the Paignton side kept the home side out for some time. After repeated pressure though Daniel Thorne

ran through to get the home side on the score sheet.

The first half was

all Okehampton, growing in confidence and playing well as a team with Paignton rarely getting out of their own half. Daniel Thorne again went over for another try and Joe Mawle was the next to go over after some impressive rucking and mauling from the Okehampton forwards.

The second half however was a different affair. Changes to the Paignton pack put the Oke side under pressure and some strong running from the Paignton backs saw Okehampton camped in their half and it was not long before Paignton scored a try.

The rest of the half saw some good defense from the Okehampton side and Paignton were unlucky not to score again.

This was a classic game of two halves but fortunately the Okehampton side had done enough in the first half to secure the game. Ben Squires who played his first game for Okehampton and played really well.

Okehampton U12s 78

Paignton U12s 0

THIS was another win for Okehampton who put Paignton to the sword with dominance in the pack and backs keeping Paignton in their own half all of the game

With some strong moves from the pack it gave the backs Joseph and Leon time to keep Paignton guessing where the ball was going to; this allow the backs to score 10 tries.

Not to be out done from the pack Joel and Jack C scored two great tries from deep to power over to score.

Oke player of the match was Ethan Hoggins for his big powerful strong runs.

Tries scorers for Okehampton:  Leon Horn (4), Joel Tancock (2),  Ebby Vallane (2), Ollie Arden, Jack Ogborne, Jack Chapman and Corey Holiday (1 each); conversions by Leon (3), Corey (2), Joseph, Ethan, Ebby, Adam (1 each).

Okehampton U11s 28

Paignton U11s 0

BOTH sides faced an energy sapping match played out on a muddy pitch. This resulted in much of the game being controlled by the forwards with little opportunity for the wingers to get into the play.

Oke was first to score from James, who also converted. Winning the scrums and the line outs provided possession and led to a second try by Nathan with James converting. The forwards continued their attack with some great play and individual runs from Alex, Brad, Will and Tom.

This was a stop-start game which favoured the well drilled Oke pack and another try and conversion by Nathan put them three up at the interval.

In the second half Paignton pushed time and time again but the home side remained focused and defended well. Oke kept the visitors out and mention goes to Dai Chi, Daniel, Josh and Kai for their determined tackling. George, Callum and Imogen served well on the wings.

Brixham U10s 5

Tavistock U10s 20

REPEATED mauling by the Brixham defence frustrated the Tavistock attacks with several forays over the try line being held up by some dogged defence work by the home team.

The visitors eventually broke through with Louis Peake finding an opening.

The second half saw Tavistock make better use of width using the backs to find ways around the tight defence. Noah Berridge and  Henry Varndell –Dawes scoring tries in the corners after some patient phase play by forwards Oscar Campbell, Harry Richardson and Cameron Georgel. There was great support play from Dan Pett, James Kenyon and Jack Bellamy while Harry Edwards at scrum half helped Tavistock retain the ball. Jack Bellamy was rewarded with a try himself  after a blistering charge through the centre to seal the win.

Paignton U9s 9 tries

Okehampton 9 tries

THE Okehampton lads should be proud of how they played in what was a complete team performance.

It would be inappropriate to single an individual player out as the team worked for each other. The teams matched each other try for try throughout, but their was something pleasing in the way the Okehampton lads passed the ball through the hands and mauled their way to nine tries.

The Paignton team were well drilled in the ruck to keep them in the game.

It may have been a draw but Okehampton are clearly improving as the season progresses. Okehampton tries from Theodore (4), Jay (1), Jack (1), Dillon (1), Oliver (1) and Edward.

Brixham came back with two tries before Billy, Ewan and Tom scored to finish off a satisfying performance for Tavistock. Tom's try was his best yet for the team in which he has been an ever present for three years.

Paignton U8s 9 tries

Okehampton U8s 8 tries

AGAINST a well drilled Paignton side Okehampton showed great attitude attack and defence. The pitch was narrow and having the six tag rule meant that Okehampton could not use their faster runners to good effect but to Paignton's credit they did pass the ball well and ran straighter lines of attack . The game could have gone either way right down to the final whistle .

Alex, the Oke captain, led by example. Oke try scorers were Marcus (3) Aedan (3) Joe and Holly (1 each).  It was a good all round performance by Morgan and ever improving Sam.
