A NUMBER of personal items were stolen from a bench in Tavistock Meadows on Friday, October 4 between 12.30pm and 1pm. The items taken were a grey and pink zip up sports jacket containing car keys and bank card in the pocket, a water bottle and a book.

• ITEMS were stolen from the storage compartment of a van parked securely and unattended in a layby at Meavy on Sunday, October 6 between 12.50pm and 1.40pm. Items stolen were a surf board, climbing equipment and clothing and camping equipment. The cost of the loss was approximately £2,600. • POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward following criminal damage at St Andrew’s Church in Whitchurch, Tavistock. A projector screen was torn down and a marble monument below was damaged.

The incident occurred between noon on Sunday, September 29 and Wednesday, October 2.

• COUNTERFEIT Irish bank notes were used at a Tavistock business on September 21.

Payment was made for low value goods using the £50 note in order to collect a substantial amount of change.

The offender was described as mid/late 30s, medium build, short dark hair with a strong Irish accent. The man was wearing a dark T-shirt, jeans and white trainers.

Police would like to make local businesses aware of the situation and are urging them to stay on their guard.

• POWER tools worth over £1,000 were stolen from a shed in the back garden of a property in Spreyton between Sunday, September 22 and Friday, September 27.

A padlock was removed from the shed and the tools were taken from within. One item was a green cordless drill worth around £250, which was in a box with spare batteries and a charger. Another was a black nut runner cordless drill worth around £400, also in a box with two spare batteries and a charger. The third item was an orange chainsaw worth around £450.

If anyone gets offered these items to buy second hand please inform the police and quote crime reference CR/088486/19.

A spokesperson from Okehampton Police said: ‘Okehampton Police would like to warn members of the public to stay vigilant, ensuring that outbuildings are locked securely and, if possible, alarms and security lights should be fitted to buildings containing valuable items. Please report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.’
