A NEW music-making project for young people is being launched in South Tawton by Devon's folk arts development organisation Wren Music.

The Dartmoor Youth Roots Band offers an opportunity for eight to 13 year olds to play acoustic music under the guidance of professional musicians.

Young people can bring along their favourite acoustic instrument, or they can borrow one from Wren Music's stock.

Many instruments are available and instruction on how to play them will be provided.

Everyone is welcome and there are no auditions. No experience or music reading is needed, as the emphasis will be on having fun and making friends through music.

The Dartmoor Youth Roots Band workshops will be held on Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm at Church House, South Tawton.

The workshops start next week on May 17, and then May 24, June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 5. Taking part costs £12.50 for five sessions, or £3.50 per week.

Places are limited, so reserve one by calling Wren Music on 01837 537754 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
