Plymstock U16s 0

Tavistock U16s 34

TAVISTOCK started dominating the forward play in this first round match although initially struggled to release their backs.  It was 15 minutes into the game before this dominance paid off with a well worked move which permitted Ritchie Coker to break free and release Callum McCormick to open the scoring with a fine try.

Tavistock's tails were now up and were rarely out of Plymstock's half and this amount of pressure permitted Pete Meachin to score the second try, which was successfully converted by Jez Cramoysan.  The 12-0 half time lead failed to reflect the dominance of Tavistock.

Tavistock converted possession to points opened the second half with a well worked try by Richie Coker, who was carving open the hosts defence with his pace.  Tavistock played with confidence and outclassed the opposition allowing a further try  from Richie Coker, an excellent breakthough try by Danny Gibson and Rob Hocking who scored his first try of the season with some clever wing play.  With Jez C converting one of the tries.

Devonport Services U14s 10

North Okes U14s 24

THIS was a tough, physical game for North Okes who struggled to win any of the scrums in the first half. However with good defence they managed only to concede two tries, whilst Angus Mortimore scored a try for the visitors.

In the second half their fitness told against the heavier pack. Callum Pillivant lead from the front and crossed the score line, which Josh Bickley converted. This was followed by a string of good passes to enable tries to be scored by Zac Middleton and Will Cooper. Zac Ponsford converted one of the tries.

It was a good all round team effort and they kept their discipline to avoid giving Devonport Services the chance to even the scores.

Tavistock U13s 7

Kingsbridge U13s 65

DESPITE being over-run in the early stages by a fast and powerful Kingsbridge side, Tavistock put on a brave showing in a much closer second half. The home side had good early possession and moved the ball well particularly along the back line with scrum half Barney Megicks, centre Adam Williams and wing James Perring displaying some good touches. However the visitors soon took control through their free running forwards and crossed for tries from close range and from runs deep in their own half. Tavistock's tackling was much improved with Will Slater at number eight standing out and well supported by the Dobie brothers Matthew and Daniel.

However the rampant Kingsbridge players took the bulk of possession gained from set pieces and in the loose to rattle up points on the board and lead 51-0 at half time.

In the second period Tavistock side showed great spirit and fought hard to take the game to the visitors. They soon scored through Tom Jackman after some great forward play by Alex Ferguson and quick movement along the line from Rory Springbett. The home pack started to take command in the scrum and also through some open running especially from Nick Jory, Charlie Carter and Zak Brinkhurst. Even though Kingsbridge crossed for two further breakaway tries the home side put on a superb second half showing.

Okehampton U12s 21

Paignton U12s 7

PLAYING up the slope in the first half the Okehampton pack were dominant creating lots of possession for the backs, but playing a good tackling team the young Oke's struggled to find any gaps in Paigntons defence. This was as it finished at half time with the score on 0-0.

The second half started much as the first, but after a good kick and chase by Brandon Horn they managed to regain possession and Hallam Chapman powered over for the first try which was converted by Brandon Horn. This gave them more confidence and began to run the ball more, resulting in a second try rounded off by Brandon Horn. Then back came Paignton with a try of their own, which set up a good final five minutes. With some good tackling and physical running the pack managed to regain the ball and Patrick sprinted in to score the final try. This was a fitting result with a good performance by the whole team.

Bideford U12s 0

Okehampton U12s 50

WHEN play started after a tricky journey to Bideford, the parents were rewarded by some excellent play by the team, with forwards and backs linking up well with Callum Hughes and Hallam Scoring one try and Hallam (two) tries. This gave the team more confidence to run the ball resulting in further tries being scored by Reece and Brandon Horn. The final and best try of the match was scored by Freddie Fishleigh who rounded off an excellent handling move by the backs to score the corner. Harry Williams was player of the match award with his well deserved four tries.

Plymstock U12s 0

Tavistock U12s 68

THIS was a rather one sided match and the tone of the match was set literally a few seconds after the whistle when Charlie went over the line for the first of the side's 10 tries and nine conversions.

Tavistock played especially well in the first quarter with some fine direct running.  Tries from Charlie, Bertie, Christian, Finn, Morgan and Joe came quickly all supported by some great work up front, notably by Morgan who had a great match.

Plymstock gamely fought on and despite being 40-0 down at half time did not give up. They contested the scrums well and clearly had the edge when it came to raw strength but Tavistock's forwards played well in the loose and were not intimidated by the size of their opponents. After the half time Tavistock added tries from Charlie, Harvey, Bertie and Christian.

Okehampton U11s 17

Paignton U11s 54

PAIGNTON scored straight from the kick off and then went on to score two more quick tries. Okehampton never let their heads go down and came fighting back as Joe Mawle powered over for their first try. The Okes then lost their scrum half through an injury. Team captain Tom Bayley stepped into the scrum half position and played a superb game.

After some good pressure from the forwards the powerful Joe Mawle went over for his second try.  When Okehampton won a scrum five metres from their own line, Tom Bayley spotted a gap on the blind side and ran the length of the pitch to score a superb try - which he duly converted. Oke never gave up even when Paignton went on to score some further tries. The whole team showed true commitment and determination against a strong side.

Okehampton U9s 15

Paignton U9s 30

OKEHAMPTON began sluggishly and were caught out by a quick try scored by the visitors from their first play. This seemed to wake them up and the home side got stuck into the game. The Okes played some determined rugby with several tries being stopped right on the Paignton try line. Imogen Ogbourne had a super match, managing to keep her feet despite hard tackles from the other side and then showed her fleet of foot by running over the try line for Oke's opening try.

Paignton went two tries ahead before Dai Chi, on his debut match, opened up their defence with a great run down the left wing to score. He also showed good anticipation and attacking tackling. Paignton came back but the ever dependable Nathan Tomkins showed his strength for another Oke try. Brad Simmons had a good game in the front row.

Okehampton U9s 15

Paignton U9s 15

THE mud and cold had made it difficult to control the ball, with both sides committing unforced errors. Tries for Okehampton came from Daniel Turney and Nathan (2). Okehampton's player of the match was awarded to Imogen for the first game and Dai Chi for the second.

Plymstock Albion Oaks U8s 6

Tavistock RFC U8s 5

A FIERCELY fought battle for territory ensued from the off with both sides showing discipline in defence and creativity in attack.

Every inch of gained ground was hard fought for. Tavistock endeavouring to use some fast hands and great passing play to create space for try scoring,  whilst  Plymstock utilised close and fast support work to create their tries. Two differing styles used to good effect in an evenly matched game. Tavistock tries coming from winger Henry Varndell-Dawes (3), James White and Tom Gardener.

Plymstock Albion Oaks U8s 4

Tavistock RFC U8s 3

The second  game carried on in the same vein as the first with both teams probing and testing the other, with Plymstock just pipping Tavistock a second time. Second game Tavistock tries came from Louis Peake, Harry Edwards and Harry Richardson.  This was a great effort from the Tavistock team with all players working their socks off to provide entertaining two tag games.

Okehampton U8s 17

Paignton U8s 13

THIS was by far the hardest game the young Oke's side have played all season. Played over four 10 minute quarters all 15 players rose to the occasion acquitting themselves well. Oke showed an improved defence line pressurising the Paignton attack into a lot of mistakes and creating opportunities for the home side to counter attack. Liam Daintree 1, Daniel Tomkies 1 and Jake Laing-Taylor all scoring well taken tries. James Stevens 2, Matthew Denning 2 and Daniel Wonnacott 2 scoring a brace each. George Cox and Ethan Wilds, both scored a try each after defence splitting breaks from inside their own half.

Will Cunningham, Saul Holliday and Harry Laing-Taylor kept up a high work rate throughout showing support in attack. Charlie Glanville completed a good instinctive performance scoring three tries after some great direct running.

l THE Okes U7's played at home against Paignton this weekend in overcast but fine conditions. Buoyed by a successful trip away to Bideford last weekend the Okes were keen to repeat last weeks success.

Paignton defended well and egdged the first period of play with Jay crossing the line for a well earned try for Okehampton.

During the second period Oke was more competitive and shared the honours with Paignton with Tom (2) and Jacob scoring tries. The Okes defended well as a team but couldn't quite keep out the opposition over the third and forth quarters. The Okes, captained ably by Tom, continues to grow in skill and enthusiasm.
