Tavistock U15s 19
Credition U15s 3
CREDITON were quickly on the offensive, gaining territory. However, Tavistock was always able to make a decisive tackle or turn over at just the right time to relieve the pressure on their own try line.
Crediton kept battering the home defence, but Tavistock did not falter. In fact, Crediton's only score, a penalty, came from a mysterious hand in the ruck, playing the ball unlawfully on the ground. Luke Styles, the Credtion kicker, duly scored the points and Crediton led by three.
Throughout the game, Credtion never made a telling line break, but they kept the forward battle competitive.
As half time came Tavistock scored. Forward Dominic Connor raced forward towards the Crediton line and as the defence came to meet him head on, he unselfishly took the contact and offloaded to Chris Swash, who was able to take the pass in his stride, hand off one Crediton player, to score Tavistock's first try. The conversion was missed to make it 5-3 scoreline in Tavistock at half-time.
In the second half Crediton attacked but was unable to move the ball to their backs, whereas Tavistock did just that, enabling the backs to manouvre the ball.
Tavistock's remaining scores came courtesy of their forwards. The first, a quick thinking effort from Dominic Connor, who took a quick penalty and crashed through to score near the posts; the try was duly converted.
The icing on the cake for Tavistock arrived just before full time. Number eight Sam Northmore set off from 40 yards out on a solo run to score a great individual try. The conversion added the points. Conversion added.
