ONE Okehampton runner made the long journey to the United States last week to take part in the Boston Marathon.
Anne Binns had earned her place there by running a qualifying time at the Edinburgh Marathon in 2015. Boston is one of the world marathon majors and is an iconic race which took on even more significance after the terrorist bombing there in 2013.
Fellow ORC Marilyn Cooper, who tragically died recently, ran this marathon in 2014 and this inspired Anne to take up her place and run it this year. Sadly Anne became unwell prior to the start of the race and her performance was way off her normal mark, but she battled on to the end and completed in 4 hours 32 minutes 56 seconds to at least earn a coveted Boston medal.
