Okehampton Argyle 4
Totnes and Dartington 3
AN exciting game at Simmons Park saw the Argyle register their first home win since September. Both sides contributed to an end to end game treating the home crowd to some entertaining football.
The first half saw Totnes deservedly go into the break 2-1 up with a Mike Bishop brace. Bishop clinically finished off some good work from Linden on the Totnes and Dartington left in the 15th minute but Alex Wren equalised five minutes later with an unstoppable drive after Will Hawkin provided an inch perfect cross on the edge of the box.
The visitors were playing the better possession football though and Bishop grabbed his second just before the break after a goal mouth scramble when Harry Geering, under pressure, dropped the ball at his feet.
However, only three minutes into the second half, Matt Mortimer equalised with a perfectly placed looping header from a Dale Chadwick free kick. The game continued with both sides playing with pace and chances fell to both sides but for the most part defences and keepers were in control and it looked as though Argyle were heading for their ninth draw of the season.
Okehampton brought on all three substitutes and the introduction of Steve Madge and Dave Youlden up front saw the Totnes defence put under pressure from the extra pace and aggression.
With only 10 minutes to go and after some sustained attacking a low cross into the Totnes box saw Dan Hurrell deflect the ball into his own net. Pushing forward for an equaliser Totnes were soon caught on the break and slick passing between Hawkin and Youlden saw the latter coolly slot the ball past the keeper to give Argyle a two goal cushion.
Injury time saw George Mariner reduce the deficit with an excellent low header just inside the upright but the home side hung on quite comfortably to see out the game and take the points to continue this outstanding season and remain in fourth position in the league.
Mike Bishop was Argyle man of the match and once again Alex Wren had a superb game in the middle of the park.
