Chagford v Axminister
DESPITE outstanding performances by Divan Marais and skipper Del Lammonby for Chagford, Axminister won with three wickets in the last over in a game affected by the Moorland rain.
Winning the toss and batting first Chagford made a brisk start with Chris Filor and Paul Penberthy putting on 42 for the first wicket before Filor was dismissed for 16.
David Penberthy departed for a duck but then Marais joined Paul Penberthy and the pair took the score to 102 when Penberthy was well caught off the bowling of Sam Farrow for a well struck 32.
Skipper Del Lammonby and Marais continued in similar aggressive vein with shots all round the ground and at 199-3 Chagford looked in line for a score more than 300. However it was Lammonby bowled by Tristan Wakeley for 32. Divan Marais followed with the score at 226 for an excellent 130 and with the other batsmen making little contribution Chagford declared at 227-9 with five overs remaining.
Axminister opening Bowler Robbie Price with 3-50 and Wakeley with 2-44 were the main wicket takers.
With the interruption at the close of the Chagford Innings, the Aminister target was reduced to 187 in 37 overs.
Brett Garner and John Herford made a good start puttiing on 29 for the first wicket, but with Lammonby in an attacking spell of eight overs accounted for Garner (26), Herford (14) and Bradley Cross for a duck.
However, Paul Miller stood firm and with Robbie Prior (33) and contributions of 10 by Wakeley and 15 by Matt PIle the visitors won in the final over after an exciting game.
Paul Miller finished on an a well constructed 71 not out. Del Lammonby was the star of the Chagford attack in taking 3-12 in his allotted eight overs with Tim Pitt-Tucker giving some support with two for 47.
As a result of this disappointing result Chagford drop to fifth in the league.
Axminister won on rain reduced target — Chagford 8 points Axminister 19pts.
