OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ FIRSTS 18
THE Okehampton ladies who travelled to Ottery St Mary triumphantly pulled through to the most of impressive victories in unusually beautiful sunny weather.
Daisy Morgan, the Oke goalkeeper, was unexpectedly busy during the first few minutes and her quick responses denied the Hornets a goal.
The Okehampton ladies then started to acclimatise and a spectacular breakaway by Lucy Wiseman followed by a cracking shot provided Okehampton’s first goal of many.
Well-practised drills lead to a truly wonderful ‘J-run’ by Nicky Pedrick.
She dribbled from the right defence up to the Hornets’ backline, passing the ball accurately to Nicky Strawbridge who was waiting at the penalty spot, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage.
She went on to score an impressive additional five goals.
Oke forwards Rochelle Woolacott and Zoe Curtis had a superb game, scoring two goals apiece, working together and supporting each other at all times.
Whilst player of the match Emily Rowlands had boundless energy taking on the Hornets fearlessly and scored an impressive three goals.
Any threats coming from the Hornet’s right wingers were blocked out immediately by Hannah Whitely with her crunching tackles and she also scored one of Oke’s goals.
Midfielders Elly Jenkins and Hannah Gibbons had a great passing game at the centre of the field and scored three goals between them.
Oke captain Sophie Whitely inspired with her strong tackling and her winding runs.
Defender Laura Parsons was determined to score a goal but was superbly denied on three occasions by the Hornets goalkeeper.
Amanda Sim was, as ever, a solid defender giving all teammates ahead the confidence to attack.
The final score of 18-0 was an impressive show of goal-scoring prowess and maintains Okehampton’s position at the top of the table.
