However, Okehampton’s composure and good form soon started to win out with defenders Helen Dalton and Nicola Bennie pushing high and linking well with Molly Marvin to pressure the Exe defence.

Soon Okehampton won a penalty corner, and a well worked move involving Hannah Whiteley and Lesley Bingham, resulted in a deflection which captain Sophie Whiteley was able to slam against the backboard to put Okehampton 1-0 up.

A jubilant Okehampton kept the momentum flowing and won another penalty which was coolly slotted away by player of the match Nicky Strawbridge. This was followed shortly after with a beautifully placed drag flick to add to Strawbridge’s goal tally, putting Okehampton ahead 3-0 at half time.

Bolstered by reinforcements from Amanda Sim, Oke moved the ball around well and hungry for more goals continued to attack with Nicky Pedrick and Rochelle Woollacott threatening the attacking D. Near misses and more penalties followed — a powerful strike from Lucy Wiseman ricocheted off the post as well as another from Strawbridge falling well for S Whiteley to get her second and third goals of the game.

 Exe, however, were not done and there was a tense moment when a loose ball slipped through, but keeper Alice Wiseman stepped up with a powerful kick onto the opposition foot with Laura Parson also solid in defence to bring Okehampton back in control of the game.

Okehampton were delighted with another 5-0 win.
