Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough

BRIDESTOWE picked up another victory at home to Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough.

Bridestowe captain Gary Sizmur won the toss and elected to bowl first on a damp pitch. It proved the right decision, as Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough collapsed to 7-4, with Tom Fogerty and Sizmur both picking up a couple of early wickets.

There was a recovery of sorts as the visitors got to 17 before Tom (5-16) bowled Wilkinson for 6. Tom then picked up two more wickets to complete his five-wicket haul, and leave the visitors reeling at 30-7.

Sharp showed some resistance and batted well for his 17 before he fell lbw to Lavis (1-21). Khan (1-17) struggled to find his line on a slow turning pitch, but did pick up the wicket of Read with an excellent arm ball.

There was then a short rain delay as the heavens opened. Alex Jopling (0-4) bowled a tidy spell without reward, but gave very few runs away. Sizmur returned to finish things off, and he did just that as Ellard, who had battled well for 20, picked out deep mid-wicket. 85 all-out represented a good recovery from 7-4 and 30-7, but was still likely to be well short of a competitive score.

The Bridestowe chase started well through Sizmur (14) and Phil Hatton (25), who both worked the ball around nicely. After a solid start, they tried to up the pace and both fell in quick succession to Light (2-28).

The score passed 50 with few issues untill Jack Hatton and James Ewen both got balls which popped from Windsor (2-21) and chipped the ball to close fielders. Tom Fogerty (30 not out) then completed a man-of-the-match performance by smashing the visiting bowling to all parts and finish the chase off. It took almost 30 overs to eek out the runs on a difficult pitch, but the win was never really in doubt for Bridestowe.
