C (West) Division
Alphington v Bridestowe
Alphington (20 pts) beat Bridestowe (seven pts) by 93 runs.
BRIDESTOWE’S first team fell to a disappointing loss at home to Alphington.
Bridestowe bowled first and picked up some early wickets through excellent spells from Gary Sizmur (5-25) and Tom Fogerty (2-30).
Chris Lavis (1-31) also bowled economically, but the rest of the bowlers struggled to keep Mark Halse (82) quiet.
The next top scorer by a distance was extras with 34 in a disappointing bowling performance which allowed Alphington to reach 203 all out.
The Bridestowe chase started confidently through Phil Hatton (37) and Gary Sizmur (20) who raced the score along at over a run a ball. The partnership was broken as Sizmur was caught off the bowling of Mills. Jack and Phil Hatton moved the score on to 77-1 before Jack became the first victim of Ashley Green, bowled for 7.
Bridestowe looked as if they would still cruise home with runs coming at a good rate with plenty of wickets in hand. However, Green crashed through Bridestowe’s middle order, picking up unbelievable figures of 8-15, aided by some marginal lbw decisions.
Only Mark Fogerty (11) and Nazir Khan (11) made double figures as Green picked up four wickets in four balls to all but seal the win for the league leaders. After some resistance by Lavis and Fogerty, Bridestowe were bowled out for 110. It was a game which really should have been won by the home team, and some wayward bowling and poor defense with the bat cost them dearly.
