WITH the 2018 cricket season almost upon us, Horrabridge local and ex-Tavistock College student, Steph Hutchins, 19, has a jam-packed cricketing year.

Already this year she has been training hard with the Devon Ladies’ senior squad, and has recently been called up to the Western Storm Senior training after impressing with their development squad in the past couple of years.

Last season the talented youngster took part in England development games at Loughborough where she was watched by England scouts.

As well as training regularly this year, Steph captained a two week Devon Ladies Under 21’s tour to South Africa. Although a little nervous about the tour, Steph gained vital experience playing in a very warm and difficult environment.

This highly talented individual learnt to play cricket with Yelverton Bohemians Cricket Club, going through the colt’s system before playing for the senior squads. In 2017 Steph moved to Plympton Cricket Club. She has proved that she can mix it with the men, consistently scoring runs and taking wickets.

Steph is currently looking for £100 sponsorship from a local company to help with the upcoming Devon Ladies season.

As a keen cricket lover, her aim is to become a full playing member of the Western Storm team that play in the Kia Super League, and from there she aims to push towards playing for England.

Not only has Steph been training hard getting ready for the upcoming season, she has been using her cricket knowledge to help young players learning the game by coaching with the MCC at Mount Kelly and through the Devon youth squads.
