Devon C WestLewdown v BridestoweTHE much anticipated local derby between Lewdown and Bridestowe delivered a thriller that was edged by the hosts.
Bridestowe won the toss and elected to bowl first. Lewdown lost opener Dave Ball (4) in the first over to Chris Lavis (2-23). Harry Geering (62) and Adam Creasy (21) rebuilt the innings until the latter also fell to Lavis.
Tom Boother (4-33) ran through the middle order to leave the hosts in trouble at 127-7. Ed Squire (40) got Lewdown to a competitive total with some support from the tail but Gary Sizmur (2-41) picked up wickets to ensure not too much damage was done. Lewdown fell just short of maximum batting points, bowled out for 195 with two balls of the innings remaining.
Bridestowe raced to 50 in the chase with Gary Sizmur (19) and James Ewen (31) starting well. Dave Ball (4-7) put the brakes on with a miserly spell which put the game back in the balance. After Ryan Dennis (22) and Phil Hatton (33) kept the scoreboard ticking but were both out to loose shots.
Wickets fell at regular intervals until Matt Dennis (26) got Bridestowe back in the game with a flurry of boundaries. At 179-6, the win looked to have been sealed for Bridestowe but Adam Creasy (2-31) and Jack Brady (2-35) bowled well at the death and wickets began to tumble.
The final pair needed 15 to seal the win but Corey Holliday feathered an edge behind with Bridestowe still 11 runs short of the target.
Lewdown (19 points) beat Bridestowe (10pts) by 10 runs.
