Hatherleigh firsts v Lewdown firsts
LEWDOWN won the toss and decided to bowl. The wicket was quite lively for the first hour and Hatherleigh bowled well with the new ball and were assisted by some variable bounce.
Early wickets fell and the pressure built for the visitors. Dave Ball dug in well for a hard fought 31. Tom Pengelly was looking good at the crease and had a good start before being run out the ball after drinks.
A mixture of good bowling by the home side and overly positive shots from the visitors led to a 76 all out total with the wicket playing better toward the end of the innings.
Hatherleigh also made a good start and showed why they have won nine out out of nine of their league games and are clear at the top of the table.
Lewdown fought back well with Nick Smith taking two wickets, Billy Seale also took two and Dinecho Visser one to have the home side five wickets down — and perhaps fortunate not to have six down for 59 which would have given the visitors hope of victory.
However, a couple of boundaries from the Hatherleigh batsmen brought the total up just before the 30th over.
Lewdown will want to move on from this match and take the bowling and fielding positives.
