Okehampton men’s firsts 5
AFTER their great win the day before Okehampton were pumped up for their trophy quarter final match away to Plympton Grammar School Old Boys A team.
The game started with Oke piling on the pressure. The Oke defence of Ed Howard, Rod Gers, Will Cooper and Neil Rowlands were largely untroubled, and it was not long before a lengthy pass from captain Luke Liversidge found Jack Watson who skilfully beat the keeper for 1-0. The away side kept up the pressure and Timon Chapman’s reverse shot beat the keeper to make it 2-0.
Going into the second half Okehampton knew 2-0 was not enough and they played some lovely simple hockey. Luke Miller drove into the home side’s circle and squared the ball to Josh Speak to slot the ball with finesse between the keeper and the post for 3-0. After this the home side had a few attacks on the Okehampton goal but when they did solid tackling from Will Cooper and a sublime save low to his left from young goalkeeper Matt Westlake kept them out.
Oke shortly regained full control of the game and Liversidge delivered another long pass to Hayden Bond who ran with the ball and slotted it with calmness into the goal. Okehampton kept piling the players forward and creating chances. A loose ball in the D looped to the back post where Watson was prowling to strike the ball in to the back of the net.
With minutes left Luke Miller crashed a reverse cross into the D and Chapman deflected the ball into the back board.
