Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one East Appledore 5 Okehampton Argyle 0 THIS was a disappointing performance by Argyle against a team in a similar position in the league. For once, Okehampton had most of their squad available and fielded what was a strong team on paper, but their inability to put chances away and a tendency to switch off and go to sleep cost them dear on the day. For the first half hour, Okehampton looked the better side and put some good passing moves together and should have gone two up, but their reluctance to shoot and try to walk the ball into the net saw these chances thrown away. On the half hour mark, Argyle's midfield allowed an Appledore player to run fully 20 yards unmarked to receive a throw-in which he drove across the box for Mark Cann to head the home side into the lead. Four minutes later and the 'Fisherman' were two up as Argyle's defence looked at sixes and sevens as the home side capitalised on a poor clearance and broke down the left for Tom Marsh to drive home the cross. Four minutes after the interval, Chris Wills, who had looked uncomfortable in the middle of the Argyle defence after two weeks' unavailability, misjudged a speculative long ball into the area and allowed Brian Levien to run on and toe-poke the ball past an helpless Harry Geering. Okehampton never recovered from this third goal and allowed Appledore to add two further simple goals to complete the rout, the first only three minutes later when Levien scored again after the Argyle defence had failed to be alert to a quickly taken free kick leaving three home players unmarked. The final goal came 15 minutes from time, when a quick break upfield saw Marsh net his second of the game. Remaining fixtures for this season: South West Peninsula League: May 3 Argyle v Newton Abbot Spurs, home 3pm; May 7 Argyle v Alphington home, 6.45pm.
