OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE 3

UPOTTERY 2

THIS was another thrilling afternoon for the Okehampton first team against a well drilled Upottery side in tough conditions.

Argyle started the game the better side creating several chances with both Mortimore and Gostling coming close. However, it was Upottery who broke the deadlock on 30 minutes with good build up play down the right side which found an opposition player unmarked in the box to slot home from 12 yards to give the visitors the lead going into the break.

Argyle came out in the second half with more attacking options thanks to a slight change in formation and bringing substitute Ross Voaden into the mix. Okehampton soon levelled the scores with a great run from Luke Alden who finished calmly past the keeper into the bottom corner.

Quickly after the restart Upottery found themselves ahead once again with a cross into box which their striker poked home at the near post.

This gave Argyle a real challenge to climb but Alden was a real thorn in the Upottery defence; he popped up not long after with a diving header from a Toby Gostling freekick to level the scores yet again.

With Okehampton now putting the pressure on and looking more like they would come out on top they finally got the winning goal when a corner was put into the box which fell to Jamie Atherton 12 yards out for him to hammer the ball against the crossbar and in the back of the net.

Another strong defensive performance allowed Okehampton to see the game out and seal all three points, coming out worthy winners leaving them top of the table and still unbeaten in the league.

Man of the match was Luke Alden.
