South Zeal United 4
Beer Albion 3
THIS was the final game of the season for South Zeal in a campaign that has seen them finish mid table. Following a defeat away at Feniton, The home side looked to close the campaign with a win.
With three substitutes available Zeal fielded a changed side that saw Spencer Stallion start up front, Ollie Jefferies in central midfield and Adam Clark in goal.
With only a few minutes played Zeal made the breakthrough when Matt Dennis hit a stunning over head kick which caught the Beer Keeper off guard. Continuing to press and dominate it was not long before Stallion was slotting home his first goal for Zeal this season into the net for 2-0.
The second half was a much different affair as Clark looked unsure in the Zeal net. A couple of attacks from Beer saw them draw level at 2-2.
Tom Reilly and Lee Gulbert steadied the back line and allowed Zeal to play out from the back.
Some great passing between Matt Dennis, Tom Boother and newly introduced James Williams saw Ryan Dennis get a well deserved goal to restore the home sides lead. Minutes later Williams hit a long range effort, which nestled in the top left corner and looked to seal the game for Zeal.
Beer were not done, however, and scored again when Zeal failed to clear their lines.
With arguably the only real strong shot on goal that Beer managed all game Clark made a classy save to keep Zeal ahead before Ben Davey , Ollie Jefferies and Samuel Jones managed to slow the pace and play the ball around with composure to see out a good 4-3 win on the final day at the Recreation Ground.
The team thanked coach James Williams and Simon Jefferies for all their hard work in running the season.
