OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE 5

HATHERLEIGH TOWN 2

OKEHAMPTON Argyle continued their winning ways with a solid display in the local derby.

A three figure crowd watched on as Argyle put on a performance that kept the fans entertained.

Hatherleigh started off well with an early goal thanks to an unstoppable strike from 30 yards straight into the top corner. However, from then on, Argyle applied wave after wave of pressure through wide men Luke Alden and Kian Burns who were relentless all game.

Oke equalised soon enough with man of the match Redd Cann slotting home a well worked move. Brad Ausden and Ross Voaden worked hard to get on the end of some early chances but could not convert. However, it was Burns who calmly put Okehampton in front after firing home midway in the first half. It was the Hatherleigh keeper who had the best half after saving a number of efforts as the teams went in with the home side leading 2-1.

After the interval it was Argyle’s Ausden who quickly gave breathing space to the home team to put them 3-1 up. Hatherleigh did get back in the game as a rare mistake at the back from Hawking saw him give away a penalty which was duly converted.

The Hatherleigh keeper then went on to make some more fantastic saves denying Dale Chadwick and Burns for Argyle.  Burns finally got his reward with a second and the game was killed off with a clear cut penalty slotted home by Luke Alden.

This was a fairly solid but entertaining display from the home team with their  attacking set up proving too much for the local rivals and the defence rarely flustered.
