Devon Intermediate Cup
Farway United 5
Okehampton Argyle Reserves 2
ARGYLE reserves suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Farway Utd who play in the Premier Division of the Perry Street League.
Okehampton held their own through much of the first half but could not stop Farway’s attackers who scored twice before the break.
Argyle got one back right after the restart and had a good period where an equaliser looked on the cards before Farway stepped up a gear and established a 4-1 lead. Another Okehampton goal was just reward for the team’s efforts but Farway killed the game off with their fifth.
Okehampton Argyle veterans 5
North Tawton veterans 3
AN exciting game on the 3G pitch at Ashbury saw Okehampton go through to the second round of the Veterans Cup at the expense of local rivals North Tawton.
Dave Medland opened the scoring for Okehampton but injured himself in the process and had to be replaced after 15 minutes.
North Tawton equalised just before half time which was a fair reflection of the game up to that point.
Steve Madge restored the lead early in the second half with a shot that went in off the underside of the bar, giving the keeper no chance. Matty Adams then chipped in from the edge of the box to make it 3-1.
Richard Keast had been threatening the Okehampton defence with his pace all game, and took his chance when it came by running through and slotting the ball in the bottom corner to bring North Tawton to within one goal.
Paul Dennis was lively down the left flank for Okehampton during the second half and one of his efforts was parried with Rene Greve on hand to finish it off.
Keast then got his second to bring it back to 4-3 before a Rich Wonnacott header was saved and Wilbur Hutchison volleyed in to make it 5-3.
This was a good win for Okehampton, playing their first veterans’ match of the season.
With North Tawton now in the same division there will be another two league matches to be played between the sides.
