LOOKING to gain some more well needed points, Okehampton started strongly with quick passes and attacking play giving us the edge over Sidmouth in the early part of the game.
Good play from forwards Sophie Tripp, Clare Grubb, Amy Taylor and Emma Wiseman saw some good advances in the circle which were soon rewarded with a short corner which led to an early lead and 1-0.
The buzz from this early goal gave the home side even more determination on the ball which showed through our play. Quick passing through the middle and lead runs from Sophie Mugliston, Ellie Shayler and Louise Weller saw another strong attack from Oke, leading to another goal taking the score to 2-0 to Okehampton.
However, Sidmouth found a gap in Oke’s play and used that to their advantage. Strong defensive play from Jane Jones, Emilia Bazeley and Debbie Pritchard made it tricky for Sidmouth to get into the D but they found a gap taking the score to 2-1.
In the second half, it was a different Sidmouth team on the pitch. Soon after the whistle, Sidmouth were strong on the attack and after many saves from goalie Ella Kaye, they found the back of goal for the equaliser. From there onwards, Sidmouth continued to attack and scored several goals despite strong tackles and good teamwork from centre backs Anna Luxton and Rachel Adams. Sidmouth found the gaps and played through them.
However, Okehampton never gave up and battled right until the end and were on the attack right until the last minute.
This was a hard game for Okehampton but the team were happy with their performance and thoroughly enjoyed the game.
