OCRA Flyers trampolinists won two individual gold medals and one individual bronze medal at the NDP regional team finals at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham.
The regional finals were a national event that has 13 regional squads across the UK competing against each other for the regional team trophy and individual medals.
OCRA’s trampolinists qualified for the South West squad in March. Vicki Pritchard, OCRA Flyers Gym, Trampoline and DMT Club head coach, was also selected as a South West squad coach.
Representing the South West, Owen Pitman competed trampolining first, with two outstanding routines, to win the Men’s NDP4 13+ trampoline event. He then competed four brilliant passes in the Men’s NDP1 13+ DMT to secure his second gold medal of the day.
Imogen Spooncer and Madison Vine were next to compete in the Women’s NDP1 13+ DMT. Both performed superb passes, with Imogen sticking every landing to win an individual bronze medal and Madison securing 9th place.
OCRA Flyers head coach, Vicki Pritchard, is a former national Grade A trampolinist. She told Times Sport: ‘This is the club’s first full season of competing at British gymnastics events, so this is a very good start! Owen and Imogen are now looking forward to the NDP Individual finals in Nottingham this month.’
Last year, a £10,000 grant from Sport England, funding from the Inner Wheel of Okehampton, the Rotary Club of Okehampton and the Manor House Hotel, and the club’s own fundraising efforts, enabled OCRA to buy a top-level Ultimate 4x4 trampoline, a double mini trampoline and three sprung track panels to lengthen the club’s tumble track.
The new equipment enabled OCRA to set up an adult and teenage gym and trampolining session and for beginners or advanced participants who are 14 years old and over. It has greatly increased opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Children, young people and adults now use the new equipment at OCRA’s sports festivals, displays, holiday camps and holiday Sport and Art days, as well as at the term-time club.
The club is now raising money for two more trampolines, end decks, mats and an inflatable pit to help more people to get involved in gym and trampolining.
