PETER Howell of Okehampton Golf Club won the best gross at the Royal North Devon Junior Open on Sunday with an excellent 76 on a challenging day of strong winds and fast greens.

Earlier this month the 17 year-old won the County Whitsun Junior Medal at Yelverton. There his gross 69 was two under par and was good enough to win by five strokes in a field of 84 of Devon’s best junior golfers.

In windy conditions he carded four birdies thanks to some excellent approach shots and course management.

Peter is enjoying a rich vein of winning form at the moment and is hoping to be noticed for county duty.
