THE Great Lanhydrock Run near Bodmin in Cornwall has become firmly established on the off-road calendar with a good turnout of runners this year taking on the tough ten mile course over the National Trust estate. Among the runners were members of Okehampton Running Club.
Andy Vernon is in good form at the moment finishing first of the ORC runners in 1 hour 12 minutes 31 seconds.
Other ORC times: Mike Baker 1.21.46, Cathy Carey 1.42.31, Heidi Wills 1.43.38, Katy Speak 1.46.33, Lotte Smith 1.55.21.
There were four runners from ORC at the Torbay Half Marathon among the very large field on the fast route beside the sea. Hilary Sales led the way for the club to finish in 2.00.41 followed by Lora Medland 2.01.40, Nicola Smith 2.05.07 and Andy Humberstone 2.28.50.
A good deal of cross training has been going on too – notably cycling.
Merv Rice picked a seriously tough event for his first sportive — Le Terrier in Lancashire, 68 miles with more than 7,500 metres of ascent.
ORC members Tim Watson, Dave Mugliston, Chris Aylen, and Derek Jackson completed the Dartmoor Classic Grande, 107 miles and 3,073m ascent and Christine Fritsch completed the Medio of 67 miles and 1,883m ascent.
Sarah Marvin and Sarah Haigh took part in the Shoreline sprint triathlon at Bude – a 500 metre sea swim followed by an 11 mile bike section and a three mile run.
