OKEHAMPTON Squash first team enjoyed a comprehensive win against one of their promotion rivals, top of table Crediton seconds.

This followed a narrow loss against Fort Stamford the previous week, but this win that they are well placed in division three of the Devon Mixed League.

Dan Yeoman and Simon Ramsay for Oke won 3-0 in their respective matches, using their drop shots and variation to good effect. Phil Allin at string 3 continued his fine run of form by using his fitness and powerful hitting to win 3-1. Phil Kemsley at string 2 won a great match 3-2 against a strong opponent.

At string 1, Arnie Searle was looking to enact revenge for his narrow loss to the same opponent in the first half of the season. He played powerful accurate shots and used the lob to good effect to win 3-1.

Overall it was a 5-0 in and a 20-4 point victory, an excellent that has put the first team in a strong position to challenge for the division title.

In contrast, Okehampton second team in division four continue to struggle not helped by an injury to string 1 Shawn Jones.

The team lost heavily away to Dartington thirds the previous week and went down to Crediton thirds this week.

Pete Twort at string 5 narrowly lost on both occasions. Both Barrie Sharpe and Stuart Lord suffered heavy defeats, and while Jack Barkwell went down to a strong Crediton opponent he continues to show good promise. Shane Vallance, at string 1, also suffered two heavy defeats with his weaker short game being exposed by the stronger players.

Nevertheless, the team continues to enjoy its squash and morale remains high.
