OKEHAMPTON FIRSTS 6

TRURO SECONDS 1

WITH Truro A currently sitting just one point above Okehampton in the league it was always going to be a fierce battle between these two sides.

This was evident straight from the off, both teams controlling the play in attack and defence. With Truro pressing high it was the home side who broke the deadlock when Rob Hall dinked an aerial ball to midfielder Nick Luxton, he then turned, passed to Josh Speak on the left who drove into the D, squared the ball to unmarked Jack Watson who smashed the ball into the back board.

This goal gave Truro a wake up call, as straight from the restart they were putting Oke under pressure and were attacking the home defence of Neil Rowlands, Rod Gers, Hall and Simon Bourne. The home side struggled to get out of their own half and after a flurry of short corners for the away side and some good saves from keeper Hayden Bond a run into the D from a Truro player was not picked up and the attacker hit a reverse shot away just beating the home side keeper.

Oke restarted and did not allow Truro to produce any quality passages of play. Bouncing it from player to player, working their way up the pitch, it was not long before this quick passing became too much for Truro with Jacob Jones perfectly positioning himself on the back post for a tap in. With the wind in their sails Oke scored their third goal; pin point passing allowed man of the match George Morgan to get a shot away which rebounded to Ed Howard who flicked the ball over the grounded keeper and into the net to make it 3-1 at half time.

The second half started as the first ended. Dictating the game, Okehampton pushed for a fourth goal and it came from a short corner routine with Luke Liversidge getting the deflection.

Okehampton did not stop there, pushing and playing exquisite hockey with all players swapping around positions. It was not long before a fifth goal came for the home side, with a ball drilled into the D from Simon Bourne, it found a perfectly positioned Jones on the back post.

Truro started to try and work their way back into the game, pressuring Oke in defence, but right back Will Cooper stood strong, making a plethora of tackles. Truro won a couple of short corners but a superb goal line pick from Hall denied them any chance of a comeback. Truro still pressing to bag a goal allowed the home side to score their sixth; great defensive work from Morgan led to a quick break; Morgan passed to Bourne junior, who found Speak and his pass across the D found Morgan whose deft touch beat the oncoming keeper and the ball rolled into the goal. Oke were able to play out time to seal the important win and leapfrog over Truro in the table.
