The martial arts group meet at the Parklands Leisure Centre, is based in Okehampton.
Ronin Taijutsu is martial art which originates from Japan more than 70 years ago, which focuses on effective ju jutsu, self defense techniques and teaches the
student to defend themselves from both standing and a grounded position.
The 5-12 year-old juniors learn the basis of striking techniques, body skills and the principle of ground work and grappling fundamentals. Students are also taught anti-bullying techniques and dealing with grabbing attacks.
There is a second class for older members of secondary school to university age
group.
Taijutsu is not a “sport” art it allows for a smaller or weaker person to effectively defend themselves against a larger or stronger opponent!’
The Ronin Taijutsu instructors sensei Paul and Clare Gunning at the Okehampton Parklands Dojo, said: We would like to congratulate the students for their excellent performance and success during their grading at the end of last term. The students demonstrated a high level of skill in their striking, body skills, throwing and ground fighting techniques. We were all very proud of their enthusiasm and focus throughout the grading test for their new belts.’
