Newton Abbot ladies A 4

Okehampton ladies 5

THIS week the Okehampton ladies' tennis team were involved in a top of the table Exeter and district division five clash with Newton Abbot A.

Captain Jackie Jarvis and Angela Herrod-Taylor started off well for Oke and cruised to a fine victory 6-0 and 6-1. With confidence high they started their second match but found it difficult to deal with the opposition's lobs. They varied their tactics and despite playing some good tennis lost the first set 3-6. In the second, through hard work and a lot of determination they won 6-3. In the deciding 10 point tie break they lost 6-10, however, they had gained three valuable points which made all the difference at the end of the evening.

Okehampton's other pairing of Beth Dennis and Kath Bolt started off well and played some creative tennis to win the first match 3-6 and 4-6. However they struggled in their second match and lost 2-6 and 4-6.

Ultimately, when all the points were added together it reflected a good team performance as Okehampton clinched a victory, winning 5-4. Although this leaves Newton Abbot in the lead in division five Okehampton are just three points behind and have a game in hand.

OKEHAMPTON Men's A travelled to a sunny Lympstone looking to keep their steady start of the season going in Exeter and District division three.

Paul Love and Martin Pearce battled hard in their first match and did not let the disappointment of losing the first set 5-7 affect them as they came back strongly to win 6-2 and then take the championship tie-break 10-5.

It was a similar story in their second match as they again lost the first set 6-7 but kept their cool to win 6-3, 10-5.

Okehampton's second pairing of Stuart and John Jarvis struggled to get to grips with the away courts and had some close games but lost 1-6, 2-6. However, they improved in the second match and stormed the first set of the second match 6-1.

After going 2-5 down in the second, they dug deep to level the score at 5-5 but eventually ended up losing 5-7, 3-10.

Overall it was another defeat for the Okehampton team but they were still able to pick up five points to keep them mid-table in the Exeter and District division three.
