Ashmoor B 0

OKEHAMPTON A went into their fourth league hockey match hoping to keep their 100% winning record against a competitive Ashmoor team.

The home team started strongly, with both fullbacks of Tom Hutchins and Rio Thomas bombing forward and applying the pressure, helped out by Jake Lloyd's skilful runs from the midfield.

Halfway through the half the pressure told and captain Brett Lawson had his first shot saved by the keeper but persisted to slot the rebound into the corner.

The opposition started to push on and threaten the Oke defence but Tim Morgan did a good job of breaking down the attacks and anything that got past him was swept up by the solid defensive partnership of John Jarvis and Alex Osman.

The arrival of Alex Emuss to spearhead the Oke attack at half time boosted the threat of the home side and it was not long before man of the match Stuart Jarvis found Alex with a perfectly timed cross but the opposition defence scrambled the ball out.

Jarvis then got around the back and picked out opposite winger Jack Watson who slotted the ball just wide of the post. Watson then returned the favour with a perfect cross to Jarvis who flicked the ball onto the inside of the post with the keeper well beaten but the ball somehow stayed out. The opposition did break through Okehampton's defence late on but Ebby Vallance kept his concentration to cleanly take the ball off the striker's stick.

Another win for Okehampton A sees them top the table by six points at this early stage.

The team thank both Richard Jones and Chris Luxton for umpiring as well as the vocal support from the sideline.
