OKEHAMPTON ladies hockey club once again took part in a tournament held by Dawlish ladies hockey club on Saturday. The tournament was renamed in memory of a much missed Dawlish player — Anne Darby.

As ever it was a friendly and enjoyable tournament and the weather was beautiful throughout.

Okehampton’s first match was against Dawlish and despite some excellent attacking play from Eleanor Marvin and Rochelle Woollacott, Oke were unable to score. However, a strong defence from Lisa May and Lois Rowlands meant the match finished 0-0.

Against Totnes, who were notable for their 70s costumes, Oke’s Louise Watts was unlucky not to score from some early shots on goal. The match finished 2-1 to Totnes.

Against Newton Abbot, Abi Colton and Sophia Marshall linked well in midfield to move the ball around and create chances, resulting in Jo Moppett beating the opposition to score. Newton Abbott replied with two goals leaving the final score 2-1 to the opposition.

In the fourth match, some excellent passing between Elsa Frangleton and Zoe Curtis put pressure on Dartmouth and gave Jo Moppett the opportunity to score again. Strong defence from Laura Parsons and superb play from Molly Marvin in the centre meant that the final score was 1-0 to Okehampton.

By the final match Okehampton were really working well together and constant attacking pressure resulted in goals for Anna Speak, Eleanor Marvin and Jo Moppett. Okehampton were unlucky to concede a goal from a quick break but the final score was 3-1.

The team played a total of five matches throughout the day and finished a very respectable third place out of six. Dawlish were the tournament winners. Okehampton’s player of the tournament as voted by the team was Eleanor Marvin who showed skilful positioning up front and scored from the post in the final match of the day.

Special thanks from the club players went to Rochelle Woollacott and Jo Moppett for umpiring and Dawlish Hockey club for organising the tournament.
