Okehampton seconds 15

Exmouth thirds 49

BOTH teams were unbeaten in the merit table to date and based on the season to date a keenly contested game was expected.

Unfortunately nothing could have been further from the truth with the Oke seconds producing a thoroughly underwhelming performance.

Playing with wind and slope advantage in the first half early advantage of possession and territory brought little reward for the home side.

The forwards through individual endeavour were gaining good hard yards but apart from an early slot over from Gary Sizmur , the visitors line was not seriously threatened.

The visitors, with a good group of experienced players, absorbed the early pressure and capitalised on some elementary errors to go three tries up at half time .

Before the Okes could settle into a stride after some half time changes , Exmouth went further ahead with scores helped by the Okes as a result of some careless play, not helped with breakdown defence going missing and defensive ineptitude with too many standing off the tackle.

After a couple of soft tries Oke finally turned up and after some impressive work from the forwards , Gary Sizmur , one of the few home highlights of the afternoon, got his just rewards with a try under the posts which he duelly converted. After this brief period of play the opposition ran with confidence and arrogance against an Okes outfit that sadly capitulated all to easily.

A last gasp effort by Oke for some sense of pride brought its just reward with a try for fullback John Short out wide which was the final act of the game.

This was a very disappointing performance from a side that has shown some encouraging spirit and potential early season. With the exception of prop's Steve Gove and the evergreen Steve Penna , back row prospect Pete Gillard , Capt Bruce Griffiths , Rory Honeychurch and the afore mentioned Sizmur there was little else to cheer about.
