THE Cornish Marathon is now the only marathon in Cornwall following the demise of the Duchy Marathon.
Four members of Okehampton Running Club took to the start with Roger Voaden being the first of the ORCs to finish, running his usual strong race to complete in 3hrs 14mins 13secs. Paul Carter finished in 3.20.19, Rob Kelly 3.36.16 and Nick Seccombe 4.07.07. Nick was making his debut at the marathon distance while for Roger, Paul and Rob this was their third marathon this year — Roger and Paul having also completed a 32 mile Ultra in June. This race marked the occasion of Roger's 30th marathon while Paul is a veteran of more than 30 events at the 26.2 mile distance.
The Drogo Ten is a favourite with local runners, offering a challenging run up and down the steep hills in the beautiful Teign Valley.
The standard was higher than ever this year with an amazing three of the 500 runners finishing in under an hour.
Eight ORC members turned out with Steve Gentle the first ORC home in 1.12.12, Monika Richards 1.28.22, Mary Moore 1.34.17, Andy Collyer 1.40.20, Karen Vallance and Jo-Anne Fletcher ran together posting 1.43.11, Sarah Haigh 1.48.33, Alan Luffingham 1.53.28.
