MEMBERS of Okehampton Running Club have been getting about the country — the latest being Jane Jones who, on a family visit to her former home, took a run down memory lane at the Matlock Athletic Club's White Peak Half Marathon in Derbyshire.

Heavy overnight rain cleared to give perfect conditions for this event with its beautiful scenery along the High Peak Trail. The race finished on the hockey pitch of the Okehampton Columbine player's old school at Cromford Meadows. With an excellent support crew to cheer her on, Jane ran a cracking time of 1 hour 46 minutes 44 seconds, knocking two minutes off her personal best and a new female 50 club record. Jane came third in the FV50 category and gained a gold UKA award time.

In the Crediton Crunch road race ORC Deborah Cunningham, who ran the London Marathon three weeks before, led the ORC runners home over the 10 kilometre course in a time of 59.24mins, followed by Charlotte Radnor 1.00.29, Wendy Abbott 1.04.32 and Beverley Dennis 1.05.58.

Father and son Mervyn and Joe Rice took part in the first race of the Run Exe Summer 5K series. Jo finished in 20.50 minutes, just ahead of Merv in 21.05. There was a UKA bronze award for Jo and a gold for Merv. There are four more races between now and September on this fast course beside the River Exe.

ORC Sue Walker was the second lady overall at the Roadford Lake Triathlon and first 'veteran', winning a gold award. She had the fastest ladies' bike time and was only 38 seconds behind the ladies' winner on the run despite losing a shoe in the mud during the run!

Earlier in the year Sue qualified for the World Duathlon Championships which take place during August in Ottawa and would love to be able to go, but she is needing some help with funding. She has already competed internationally with considerable success. If any business or individual would like to be involved with this exciting event, please get in touch with Sue on 07530 038024. In return she can offer a logo on her GB kit.
