THE organisers of the Otter Road and Rail River Race were overwhelmed by a 50% increase in entries from last year for this 10k multi terrain race.

Okehampton Running Club fielded three runners — Chris Turner came first home for the club in 42 minutes 44 seconds; Charlotte Radnor finished in 50.08 and Ged Fitzgibbon in 57.24.

ORC sent two men's teams to the Tavistock Relays with good results. The senior men's team of Will Lamerton, Rob Kelly, Andy Vallance and Nick Seccombe finished fifth overall and the team of Paul Crease, Roger Voaden, Andrew Voaden and Stuart May finished second of the men's veterans and 12th overall. As ever this was a popular event with a total of 79 teams entered.

The club holds its second race of the season on Saturday, August 1. This is the Great West Fell Run of approximately five miles taking in Yes Tor and Higher Wilhays. This is a great opportunity for anyone new to fell running to have a go. The start is at 2pm from Meldon Dam.
