THE Exeter Half Marathon was a success story for each Okehampton Running Club member that took part.
Steve Gentle is right back on form after a long period of frustrating injury and went one better than his recent fifth place at the Braunton 10 to finish in fourth place overall with a personal best in 1 hour 19 minutes 22 seconds. Stuart May and Jo-Anne Fletcher also ran PBs in excellent times with Stuart completing in 1.30.08 and Jo in 1.42.55.
The person who had the hardest task to get to the starting line was Andy Vallance. He finished third overall in this race last year but not long after he had a stroke which left him paralysed and unable to walk let alone run. He set himself a target to run in this year's race and — having to learnt to walk again — he got back into training and finished in tenth overall place with a time of 1.22.15 – a superb achievement.
