Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one East Okehampton Argyle 2 Alphington 6 STUART Cann's last game in charge of Argyle after a nine year stint in the Simmons Park hot-seat ended with defeat in an eight goal feast that brought the curtain down on both sides' seasons. Argyle's poor end to the season continued with five defeats in a row and 21 goals conceded in their last four matches. After a promising mid-season, Oke-hampton slipped to finish third off the bottom of the table – not surprisingly, as with nothing other than pride at stake, many of their regular first team squad failed to make themselves available for the end of season run-in. Alphington's victory ensured they climbed a place in the table for a top half finish. The visitors established a 3-0 lead playing down the slope in the first half with Sam Stewart neatly heading home a Josh Hole cross to open the scoring in the 23rd minute before Tom Bath scored direct from a 28th minute free kick. Argyle were still in the game at this stage but unable to finish off their good approach work, but when Pete Darke's deflected shot made it 3-0 in the 36th minute, they left themselves with a mountain to climb. Argyle still played their part in the match and briefly threatened to get back into the contest when just three minutes into the second half, good work by Steve Kinsey wide on the left saw him play the ball to Ed Bradshaw at the near post. He cleverly turned it back across the face of the goal for Steve Madge to fire home from 15 yards. However, their hopes of a comeback were dashed midway through the second period when Pete Darke scored to re-establish the visitors three goal cushion. Twelve minutes from time Argyle scored again as substitute Michal Rychlowski scored his first goal for the club with a glancing header. Two late goals, both scored by Pete Darke, made it 6-2 with Darke completing his hat-trick in the 89th minute and then adding a fourth goal in stoppage time.
