North Devon two Belstone v Victoria Park WATCHED by a surprise spectator in England Test pace-man Steven Finn, Belstone recorded their third league victory with a resounding ten wicket demolition of Victoria Park last Sunday at Rew Meadow. Put in to bat by skipper Scott Tremain, the visitors lost opener Lee Merrick for eight when he was deceived by Harry Bushin's slower ball and lobbed a simple catch back to the bowler. Two more caught and bowled wickets quickly followed with Ryan Dennis (9-3-20-1) working up a good head of steam down the hill from the pavilion end, bowling for much of the time with an eight-one split field including four slips and a gully. Paul Tuson and Harry Rainford then dug in to attempt damage limitation with a watchful fourth wicket partnership of 37 in 47 minutes before Tuson inside edged a sharp catch to keeper Simon Tremain off the bowling of Phil Dennis (7-0-16-2), who was making his first appearance for Belstone for two years. Josh Johnston joined Rainford to add 28 before he was spectacularly caught at full stretch by Jamie Walker for 10 off Tom Pearce. Rainford's vigil ended after 66 minutes at the crease when he was run out by a throw from cover fielder Scott Tremain for 29 to leave the score on 92 for six. That signalled a collapse with the last wickets tumbling for just five more runs with Matt Dennis finishing things off with a miserly spell of two for 10 from 7.2 overs. With all the time in the world to make 98 for victory Phil Woods and Scott Tremain took their time to get established as the total mounted mainly in wides, but after eight overs Tremain picked up the pace with a string of boundaries that saw the home team race to their target in just over an hour, Woods finishing on 26 not out and Tremain 48 not out.
