SHEBBEAR College first XV recently finished their impressive rugby season with a convincing win over West Buckland School by 41-20.

Captain and player of the match, James Hibben, led his team with some impressive runs and tactical play at set pieces.

West Buckland started well and scored two tries in the first 10 minutes but Shebbear’s team shone through as they applied pressure in all areas of the game.

The highlight came just before half time when Shebbear fly half Will Cowan-Dickie orchestrated a wide attack from a line-out on the half-way line; the ball was passed through seven sets of hands for Cowan-Dickie to regain possession and score under the posts.

Charlie Short and Siaosi Taufa were impressive with the ball in hand, and Will Cox and Fynn Walker, playing in their last game for Shebbear, worked tirelessly.

Jamie Saunders, the college’s rugby coach, said: ‘It was an emotional end to the season for the students who will be leaving the side, a well deserved finish to an impressive career of school rugby.

‘All school leavers are in a strong position to continue to enjoy a high level of club and representative rugby should they wish to. I would personally like to thank James Hibben, Patrick Marks, Will Cox, Harry Dymond and Matt Hill for their outstanding commitment to Shebbear’s rugby.’
