Devon Merit one

Okehampton RFC seconds 0

Teignmouth RFC seconds 3

THERE are not many games these days that end 0-3. but on a dour, dank and drizzly Okehampton day neither side could gain the upper hand.

A single penalty by Teignmouth separated the teams at half time and they held out until the full-time whistle was blown.

Okehampton could have matched the penalty score, and even won by kicking their penalties, but gamely went for the corner and a line-out to try to score tries. However, their inability to retain possession at key moments coupled with a series of handling errors meant that chances to score went begging.

The Teignmouth second XV, bolstered by six of their first team regulars, were similarly  unable to break the deadlock. Both teams’ defence dominated proceedings stifling any attempts to score, but it was a full on and competitive game which Okehampton should and could have won.

Okehampton RFC wish all the Times staff and readers a ‘Happy New Year’.
