Fisherman’s League Shield

Okehampton U16s 49

South Molton U16s 7

ORFC U16s kicked off their Fisherman’s League Shield campaign with a convincing victory over South Molton.

Taking control early on, Okehampton played some good rugby, with the forward line driving hard for position before releasing the backs, who ran in some well-worked tries.

However, it was also superb to see the forwards combine for a classic driving maul to claim a well-deserved score for the engine room. After struggling early in the season the Oke squad has swelled its ranks, and this allowed the coaches to switch players and give the whole team game time.

At times, the balance of the team went awry, and this led to rather too many penalties being conceded, but overall it was a strong team performance again and, with their confidence growing with each game, they are looking forward to the rest of the league games as well upcoming friendlies.

Credit must go to South Molton, who acquitted themselves very well, fighting and pressuring to the final whistle and scoring a fine try of their own.

Okehampton’s tries came from George Dickinson (4), Tom Stevens (2), Noah Cracknell, Kai Middleton and Brad Simmons.
