Devon one
Topsham 34
North Tawton 5
NORTH Tawton travelled away to Topsham in a second versus third clash with both sides having only one loss to leaders Wessex to their name.
Prior to the game both teams united for a minute’s applause in memory of Exonians’ player Lily Partridge, who sadly died in a tragic accident last week after training as part of the Devon ladies development set up.
The first half was dominated by the hosts as North Tawton struggled as Topsham dominated possession, territory and played at a tempo unseen by Tawton for a number of games.
An early kick at goal and a try from Topsham put a 10 point gap between the sides. This unfortunately for the mid Devonians was the theme of the half as the interval came with them trailing 27-0.
The second half did see an improvement from the guests as they strung together a few more phases and opportunities to score. Eventually pressure told as Ayris dotted down out wide for North Tawton.
The visitors’ discipline once again proved their undoing as Quinn and D Dennis went to the bin for dissent on 70 and 72 minutes.
One positive North Tawton may take is the second half finished 1-1 on a try count but ultimately were second best on the day.
