Exeter Youth U15s 14
Okehampton U115s 17
OKEHAMPTON travelled to Clyst St Mary to play Exeter Youth, having not played them last season.
From the off the young Okes were firing on all cylinders, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and not letting go until the final whistle. Five minutes in saw a superb driving maul touched down by Joshua Burgoyne to open the scoring. This score was followed ten minutes later by a quick ball from the Oke scrum, fed to Saul Holliday to power over the line. Exeter were quick to reply with a try of their own minutes later.
The first score of the second half went to Exeter when their wide kicked ball was collected well on the wing, to see them score in the corner.
Every Okehampton player gave their all during the whole game, with forwards Matthew Denning, Sonny Luxton, Charlie Glanville, Seb Haste, Saul Holliday, James Stevens, Jack Rutley and Jordan Hill covering the ground and hitting the rucks with real force.
The backs were not to be outdone, with Daniel Tomkins having a great game at number 10, Joshua McCulloch put in another improved outing for the second week in a row; Cole Pengelly in the centre tackled like a demon, destroying the Exeter attacks, with the support of Olly Northcott, George Cox, Archie Brown and Greg Haste, who again played well in the number 15 shirt.
The whole team gelled well for the whole match, supporting each other and pressurising Exeter into mistakes. Five minutes from the end, Oke were rewarded with a penalty, which was taken quickly by Joshua Burgoyne to cross the line and seal a well deserved victory for Okehampton. This outstanding team performance was their best this season. Conversion: Joshua Burgoyne (1).
