South Molton U16s 15
Okehampton U16s 29
OKEHAMPTON U16s rugby side travelled to South Molton for the second of their pool games. The visitors came out fighting and it was not long before their early pressure yielded points as winger George Dickinson crossed to score the opening try, which he duly converted.
Oke allowed the home side back into the game almost immediately as their forwards drove through some weak tackles to score. This seemed to fire up Oke and their second score came after a well-worked attack allowed James Judd to use his pace and dot down for another five points; Ewan Northcott converted. Ewan added another three points not long after from a penalty and, with their confidence growing, Okehampton continued to pressurize South Molton before Dan Turney was able to find a way through their defence and score. Ewan kicked the extra points and the visitors were 19 points ahead at the break.
South Molton lost a couple of players and had to play with 13 men for most of the second half. Despite this they continued to play some great rugby and scored another try to get them right back in the game. They kept Oke pegged down and having to defend hard.
However, the visitors finally cleared their lines and Daichi Budiman gave Oke some breathing space with another score. With a few minutes to go South Molton bagged a try in the last play of the game.
This was a much improved performance from Okehampton with lots of tantalizing glimpses of what they are capable of. Still some work to do in the breakdowns, but it was good for them the get the first win of the season under their belts.
