NORTH TAWTON 12

VEOR 7

NORTH Tawton took to the field with several regular faces missing but those that did play did the shirt proud not only with the win but keeping their own discipline in difficult conditions.

In a bad tempered contest, played in pouring rain, the home team soon settled into their stride with some good running line breaks, slick passing and some good chips over the heads turning the visitors back towards their own half. North Tawton’s Jordan Cornthwaite gathered the ball on or about the Veor 22 and sheer strength took him over for the first try; the conversion was added by Gary Sizmur for 7-0 to the home side.

After 15 minutes the game began to get a bit feisty, Veor coming back with everything they could think of and the referee really had his work cut out. A brace of penalties was awarded to the men from Cornwall although both were missed but it meant that North Tawton had to keep honest with their tackles to avoid further infringements.

It was Veor that scored next with a good try of their own and the conversion taking it to 7-7.

The second half got underway with the rain still hammering down and it more of the same with both teams trying to break the deadlock.

The home team played their attacking game and put some interplay between forwards and backs together which was rewarded when Matty Dennis went over for the five points; the kick was missed kick but it made it 12-7 to the hosts.

Veor then spent long periods in the Tawton red zone towards the end of the match; try as they might they could not pierce the home defence who held firm for another home win against Cornish opposition.

Man of the match was North Tawton’s James Miller who was good under the high ball and always breaking the line being so strong in the tackle.
