Okehampton U13s 15
THERE was an early start to Plymouth for Okehampton to play on their 4G pitch. The surface was not forgiving and the Oke lads had more than their share of injuries.
Adam for Oke started with a sprint but was swiftly taken into touch; play resumed and Devonport were soon awarded their first penalty for Oke being offside and several penalties were to follow.
A Devonport kick was chased by Arion who put in a long run before being tackled. Devonport had a big player at number one, who sometimes required more than one to tackle him which drew in too many of the Oke players; from this Devonport took advantage. The player could also cover the ground and offload to team mates to score at the last minute.
A Devonport kick was scooped by Lachs; a ruck followed from which Mason picked and passed to Saul, who put in a long run but was bundled into touch.
Good teamwork followed for Dan’s try in this half. Will was tackling well, Oke were getting closer to the tryline but Devonport were keeping the pressure on the visitors.
The second half showed Mason and Ed tackling well. Mason put in a solo run and was caught on the try line; a Devonport player ripped the ball and ran but Adam deftly put him into touch. Oke’s spirit lifted after another try for Dan. Devonport would never drop and kept chipping at Oke and pushing them back for a try. Oke were driving well though and Chris got his hands on the ball a couple of times. Will Brown made a break with a storm along the touchline to score while Callum as always was a tough opponent.
Oke had some moments of superb passing but this was outshone by missed opportunities to lessen the difference in the score. There was also some hesitancy during play which gave away valuable time for Oke to put pressure on the hosts.

THE first quarter started with a midfield deadlock for the first ten minutes with all the starting nine getting stuck in. The first Oke try came from Luka, fighting the tackles, with his nifty footwork carrying him over the line. Devonport gathered themselves and scored a quick two tries which in turn fired Oke’’s bellies and the result was Xavier crossing the line even with a blue shirt wrapped around his neck for two tries each.
The second quarter saw more pace from Devonport which had Oke on their back foot, Jack chased down a Devonport gazelle with a superb tackle and they were stopped just shy of the line. The whole team dug deep as Devonport exploited Oke’s narrow formation and fired in a few tries. In return Oke concentrated on their rucking skills which helped Xavier to score two. In a superb moment all the team handled the ball at least twice, enabling the Michael to fly over the line. Score 8-5 to the hosts..
By the third quarter Devonport were at full steam, stealing loose balls and interceptions, Will played them at their own game and grabbed a loose ball and fought his way to the line supported by all the team. Oke kept bravely fighting and Joe found grip on the artificial surface to soldier over the line in the last play. Score 14-8. The last quarter saw Jack chase the high ball and his reward was a well executed try and the last from Oke in the game.
Roman earnt himself the most improved trophy this week for his non stop performance and Xavier was awarded Oke player of the match for his consistent try scoring.

ON a cold but sunny morning Oke made an unusual slow start with many early tries being scored by the opposition.
Things started to look up for Oke when Freddie found an opening and made good speed across the field to score the visitors’ first try. Amalie proved a key player with her committed tackling to bring the Devonport player to the ground. Lovely quick passing between Corey, Luke and Joseph allowed the team to make better position up the field where Harry got the ball and made his way to the try line.
Devonport’s barrier was strong but Harry’s determination saw him break through to score Oke’s second try just before the whistle blew leaving us 5-2 down.

Oke U9s A 7 tries
OKEHAMPTON picked up in the second game, stepping up the pace and securing many tries. Amalie made some superb tackles and also made a great run to score her first try. Luke was hot off the mark from Oke’s line out to also add to the score. Some great dodging from Corey and Joseph’s commitment to always be close by to support the team allowed for some great gameplay. Stand out tackles from Harry put the pressure on but Devonport just won by one try. Okehampton tries: Harry 3,Freddie 2, Amalie and Luke.

OKEHAMPTON were soon into the swing of the game, with Myles using his agility to score the first try. Charlie did a great offload to Dylan who used his power to drive forward. A good pass to Myles and it was 2-0. Devonport fought back with a good turn of speed from their players and were over the line.
At the re-start, Ben powered in for a great tackle and with the help of Dylan and Archie P, Oke kept the pressure on Devonport’s possession. This paid off with first Archie P scoring, and then Myles scoring his third try.
The game was evenly matched with possession switching between the teams. Charlie and Myles put in some good tackles, halting the progress of Devonport.
Following strong Oke team work, both Myles and Dylan got across the line to score the final two tries of the match.

Oke U9s B 3 tries
DEVONPORT had some fast players and stretched the Oke defensive line to score two early tries. Oke stepped up to the challenge and with strong tackles from Dylan and Myles, Devonport’s progress was slowed.
Archie P did a great intercept of the ball and was unlucky not to make it all the way to the line. Then following a re-start, Archie D had a great run down the pitch and scored for Oke. However, Devonport were quick to come back and two further tries put Oke behind. Ben found his strength and pushed forward, giving Myles the ball who used his speed to score.
Archie D coordinated a strong defence for Oke, but Devonport’s smallest player proved too nippy and scored a neat try. At the re-start, some good passes by Oke gave Archie P the ball. He did a great bit of footwork, dodging the opposition and scoring Oke’s final try.
