ATHLETES from Tavistock Athletics Club have been representing the club proudly at the U20 South West Indoor Championships and the Cornwall Schools Cross Country Championships.

Jade Kinsey won a silver medal in the U20 200 metres and Brook Adnitt won bronze in the U20 men’s 200 metres at the championships in Cardiff.

Eight Tavistock Athletic Club junior athletes took part in the Cornwall Schools Cross Country Championships at Newquay on January 23. All of the athletes attend Callington Community College, who they were representing in this championship.

The first race was a combined intermediate and senior girls race. Tess Masselink raced brilliantly and won the senior girls gold medal, with Devi Young in the intermediate category coming in 15th.

Next up was the year 7 boys’ race and Daniel Mercer ran his best race of the season to gain an individual 12th place and a gold medal in the team event.

Annelie Jamma Ben M’hand ran a well deserved 16th in the Year 7 girls’ race.

The next race saw the intermediate and senior boys combined. The ground was now becoming very muddy underfoot and the wind at times full in the faces of the runners. This was the longest distance race of the day at 5.6 kilometres. Josh Davies, more known for winning gold medals for sprinting than running in muddy fields, came an excellent 15th with Rueben Noy-Scott in 23rd place.

Tilly McDowell ran an impressive race, keeping with the leading pack and dug in for a 6th place in the junior girls’ event, very good for someone who has another year in this age group.

The last race saw junior boy Bradley Stevens, a new member to Tavistock AC, run his first cross country race of the season and he was rewarded with sixth place also.
